Treatment for constipation

Swollen veins, known as hemmoroids are located in the anal canal. While it is painful, it is not life threatening. Approximately 10 million Americans have hemorrhoids. There are two types known as internal and external.

When veins grow to be engorged inside the canal internal hemorrhoids develop. If the engorgement happens next to the opening, external hemorrhoids form. Having both simultaneously is possible. Healing and indications will vary according to which one you have.

The reason hemorrhoids develop is because of stress on the veins in the pelvis or rectal region.

Usually, the tissue inside the anus fills up with blood to assist in controlling bowel movements. If you have to strain to move your bowels, the pressure can cause the veins to swell and stretch. This leads to hemorrhoids.

Force from constipation or diarrhea.

It is common for a pregnant woman to get hemorrhoids during her pregnancy. Pregnancy causes an increase on the veins n the pelvic area. Also the pressure on the body from labor has a tendency to cause hemorrhoids or can make them worse.

Being overweight can lead to hemorrhoids as well.

Symptoms of both types include bleeding during bowel movements, itching and pain when cleaning the area.

For internal hemorrhoids, blood may be present on your bowel movements or on toilet paper.

Internal hemorrhoids are generally little, distended veins in the wall of the channel. The veins may also protrude from the rectal region and are quite large. When compressed by the rectal muscles they are excruciating if they protrude. It is also excruciating if they are cut off from the blood supply.

The external kind might bleed. The blood then gathers and causes a hard lump that is painful.

Having a physical done can let you know if you have them or not.

Assessments might not be required for those under 50 if the doctor believes the bleeding is due to hemorrhoids. Using a finger that is covered with a glove, the doctor will perform a rectal exam or use a lighted scope to view the inside.

If the doctor rules out hemorrhoids through the physical exam, then they may choose to perform a colonoscopy or use a sigmoidscope to check for rectal, colon or anal cancer. All three of those cancers share bleeding as a symptom.

For treating external hemorrhoids at home, take over the counter medication, consume a lot of water and include fiber in your diet. These steps can prevent and cure hemorrhoids. Most external hemorrhoids will respond to the cure.

Internal hemorrhoids can be treated with the same methods.

Tying off hemorrhoids using rubber band or scar tissue might be done by the doctor to decrease their size or make them disappear by denying them blood. If this does not work, or if they are bad enough, another cure might be necessary.

If these cures do not work, surgery may be necessary.

To prevent hemorrhoids or keep them from worsening eat foods high in fiber like fruits, whole grains and vegetables. Drink plenty of water and exercise regularly to for prevention efforts also.
